Somethings never do change...

Jetlag's foreign to me.. flying through 8 timezones to get home.

Back home, somethings never do change. I'm not just talking about the food, the heat, the afternoon showers and the lovely traffic jams but also the people closest to you. In my family, there's always been 'division of labour'. My dad tells my bro to do something.. and then my bro ends up telling me to do it.. and I end up doing it. Ahh.. yes, the wonders of being the youngest in the family.

Another interesting thing is how the elder one gets something by saying, "Mom/Dad, Jo wants *insert object of desire here*"" where by saying I want it, the elder one enjoys it too. It's something which has been done by the elder one since I can remember. He rides on my younger sibling right to be spoilt and gets something out of it too. He's in his twenties and still does it! *sigh* Elder siblings...a simbiotic relationship, perhaps?

It's strange. My body accepts that it's home.. the smells, the sights, all embedded in my muscle/visual memory. Yet, the brain is still in shock. Maybe its the jetlag or maybe its a combination of the worldcup timetabling and jetlag.

Ahh.. Still. Somehow, it's good to be back.

Bittersweet & an Ode to Rutland Hall

First off, I deeply apologize for my time away from my blog. M.I.A., I was. Numerous picnics, outings, gaming, football, an attempt of CAMPUS 14, and BBQs have kept my pre-occupied.

Well this is it, as I write this, by this time Sunday I would be back in Malaysia. Alot of cliche-d stuff I could say. But have you ever had that feeling... after you watched the very final episode of a series or reached the end of a novel*? Or when you're on the plane which has just landed after a holiday or a trip and there's that cheesy elevator music playing in the background and you got that feeling? It's a sort of a bittersweet feeling...I call it the 'bittersweet' or 'all good things must come to an end' feeling. That's what I'm going through plus a cocktail of other emotions.

*If you ever read the actual LOTR and not just watched the movies, it's like that part where Frodo reveals that he would be sailing off to the undying lands and Sam sees him off as he sails away with the elves and in the last paragraph, he comes back to his wife, Rose and the last line was, "I'm back". (yes, I was quite a hardcore LOTR fan.. I've read it 3 times all 3 books >.<)

I've seen off a number of friends. And for next year, I've made a resolution.. If I'm going back, I'll rather be the first few leaving for home so people would see me off and lug my baggage around for me!

And for my last post for the academic year, I shall dedicate this last paragraph to Rutland Hall. I pleed for poetic licence for the next few lines!

Oh Rutland Hall,
Is indeed wonderful,
With it's midnight druken fervour,
And the morning after odour,
Hallways littered with takeaway boxes,
And quite a good number of foxes.

It's memorable fire alarms,
At the worst possible moments,
Faces along the corridors,
Most will fade into distant memories,
Only to emerge for akward reunions.

Ahh.. Yes, Rutland hall and its spires. Its people. A good word has to be said for all the staff in the hall.. they were really helpful and all. After everything said and done, it was a home away from home,

I really need something to look forward to. Let it be home.
